Dear OPP ... Open Letter... Signed; Ontario Mothers Everywhere

To whom it may concern,

I would like to first thank you for your time as this is a matter of great concern within our community.

It’s been brought to the attention of many parents the abuse of a young 12-year-old boy in the Gravenhurst area. Had this been a parent tossing a child to the ground in front of my eyes at a store I would’ve called the police for protection. I didn’t imagine I would be seeing this from our own small town officers. I question his own parenting.

Our community does not condone this kind of abuse from our police force. We expect from them even when facing the rudest of our members of society, that they show themselves to be an example in the eyes of that person and community. Yes, near perfect. This is what you should strive for.

Our community expects complete professionalism and honour. We want to have faith in our police force and we want to feel properly protected.

Our officers go to our young children’s school and teach them the meaning of integrity and the results and consequences of bullying behaviour. Please have your officers demonstrate this in our community as well.

If not termination we expect a full retraining of this officer and a further investigation to see if maybe the department he is working for is a good fit.

A public apology would also be fitting. If you want to have faith from the community and know that the professionalism and integrity of our officers are honest and true this simple action would rectify the situation a lot seeing as the incident went viral.

Thank you again for your time into the matter,

Ontario Mothers Everywhere

I agree there should be an investigation but it is unclear in the video as to what exactly happened. Did the officer push the child or did he stumble and fall? Does anyone question why the child was in a facility that was supposed to be closed, wasn't wearing a face mask or physical distancing as requested by our government to slow/stop the spread of this debilitating virus that is killing people or why he simply didn't answer the questions. Perhaps the parents should also be investigated and take a course on parenting for allowing their child to partake in activities that have been deemed to endanger others.

Replying to

I have viewed this video at least 8 times and have yet to see this officer push the boy. Looks to me like the boy tripped on the grass backing up. Why was this boy being so disrespectful not only to an adult but to a policeman anyway? I don't believe it was the intention of the police to harass these boys but to talk to them and educate them on the restrictions in place. Why were the boys not staying home as asked? At their age it is on the parents in my opinion. Are they not protecting them from getting sick? We live in Muskoka not Minneapolis! Too many jumping to conclusions without all the facts.
